An enthusiastic audience gathered in Castlewellan Castle to launch the 47th show which takes place on Saturday 19th July. Target Dry were announced as our new major sponsor for this year and a great display of clothing and outdoor wear were on display from this Belfast based company.
Speakers included show chairperson Michelle McCauley, show patron broadcaster Karen Patterson with guest speakers John Bamber, past president of RUAS, Jim Harrison president of ISA and Gareth Sharvin, vice chairperson Down District Council. There was a great acknowledgment of the success of last year’s show and the additional dynamic which appearing on the Farm Fixer programme brought with it. There was also high praise for the many volunteers who support the Show as well as the broad range of sponsors without whom the Show could not happen. Serving as a firm foundation for this year speakers were optimistic about July and extolled the fondness which many people have for the Castlewellan Show.
Neil Weir outlined the plans of the new Youth Committee which is planning a variety of events including a best dressed animal competition. Show secretary Jackie Fitzpatrick finished the speeches looking forward to seeing everyone there on Show day and with an invitation for each person there to encourage new people to come along. The audience were then treated to a very tasty supper provided by Forthill Farm & Simply Irresistible.
