Glamour and Gruff at Castlewellan Show

2 July 2013

Magee Clothing is our sponsor for this year’s new attraction, the Fashion Show & Vintage Tea event.

Established in 1866, this  world wide renowned family owned brand still maintains a complement of hand weavers in addition to the mill in Donegal town.  Traditionally associated with tweed, the Magee range has extended to a comprehensive casual collection including wools, angoras, silks and linens with a new accessories ion.   The Fashion Show will showcase men and women’s apparel from the current collection inspired by heritage yet with contemporary styling.   Tickets will be available on the day and the event will raise funds for the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children, which has a local respite centre in Newcastle.

It is well worth putting in the effort for the Best Dressed Lady & Best Dressed Man including Slieve Donard Resort Spa treatments, a Magee tweed jacket, vouchers for TJ’s Jems, Hair Kutz, Buttercrane shopping centre and Down Royal Racecourse with a bouquet of flowers from Heaven Scent in Rathfriland.   Adjudicators will be broadcaster and Show Patron Karen Patterson with Josephine T McEvoy from TJ’s Jems.

For those happier in a pair of wellies, they can browse over 4000 entries which have been received for Show Day on July 13th.   With a number of national championships running including the prestigious All Ireland Bull & Heifer Derby Limousin final, National Hereford Show, Beef Shorthorn National Championship, British Blue Derby, Blonde Calf Championship and Hampshire Down final, the standards are higher than ever.   There has been a strong entry in the sheep and equine classe with the Coolmore Search for a Young Horse competition proving very popular.   A lot of interest has been generated in the two day goat event with poultry still attracting exhibitors of all ages.   In the home industries and family section, almost 800 entries have been received where the Family Fun Billy Goat’s Gruff models and scarecrows will be in abundance.

Trade stands are also significantly up for gourmet food and crafts as well as out on the field offering plenty of browsing for visitors.   You can check out a list of attractions, stalls and exhibitors at our website www.castlewellanshow.com
